Profile
Weili joined the School of Journalism and New Media at Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2020 as an Assistant Professor.
He gained a PhD in Social Sciences, with the research direction of Communication and Media Studies, from Loughborough University (UK) in 2020. He did his master’s at the University of Leeds (UK) in 2015, majored in New Media.
Research
Weili’s main research interest is comparative media analysis. Such research compares media institutions and content across both time and space. He also writes more broadly on international communication, political communication, environmental communication, etc.
Weili leads six research projects since 2020, funded by Ministry of Science and Technology of the P.R.C., Ministry of Education of the P.R.C., Federation of Social Sciences Associations, etc.

Postgraduate supervision
He is interested in supervising master’s students that focus on a wide range of media and communication issues including: comparative media analysis; international communication; environmental communication; social impact of Covid-19, public diplomacy, national image, etc. He is also interested in supervising students with bilingual or multilingual competence, especially in Russian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Arabic.
He welcomes students to contact, with a research proposal or a general idea, before making a postgraduate application.
The working languages will be Mandarin Chinese and/or English.
