Introduction

In today's era, news communication and sustainable development are closely linked, and they jointly shape social progress and the future of mankind. As an important way to transmit information, news communication can not only quickly convey news events around the world to the public, but also guide the public's cognition and understanding of sustainable development issues. With the deepening of globalization, sustainable development issues such as environmental issues, resource allocation, and social justice are increasingly receiving widespread attention from the international community. The importance of studying news communication and sustainable development lies in that they jointly promote the society's deep understanding of environmental and social issues, promote the popularization and practice of the concept of sustainable development, and provide motivation and direction for building a more harmonious and sustainable world. It should become one of the important strategic support points for my country's governance.

The course closely revolves around the important deployment of "enhancing the communication and influence of Chinese civilization" in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, closely follows the strategic requirement of strengthening international communication capacity building, and is based on the academic research topic of "journalism communication and sustainable development" that integrates China and foreign countries. An international and diversified teaching team has been formed, bringing together foreign experts from the United States, Europe, Central Asia, and South Asia. Teaching is used to promote academic exchanges and dialogues, while "bringing in" and promoting Chinese academic "going out", forming a healthy academic dialogue and academic community, and enhancing the international communication and influence of Chinese academic discourse.

Deputy Secretary, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, School of Journalism and New Media, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee and Deputy Director of the Degree Committee of the College. He has long been engaged in scientific research and teaching in the fields of public opinion management, news release and international communication. The scientific research team led by him relies on the platform of "New Media and Social Governance Research Center", a new think tank in Shaanxi universities, focuses on the main axis of "risk society and news release", uses multidisciplinary paths and methods, and conducts long-term systematic research on public opinion governance, government news release, enterprise crisis communication, etc., and has made important progress in project research, think tank services, international cooperation, etc., and has accumulated a solid research foundation.

Cheng Yang


Tenured Associate Professor at North Carolina State University, Visiting Professor of School of Management, Director of Overseas (China) Exchange Program, currently member of the editorial board of the Journal of Public Relations Research, Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management and Public Relations Review. Guest Editor of special issues of Internet Research and Public Relations Review. Research interests: He has long been engaged in the research of global public relations management, social media and artificial intelligence, and crisis communication. He has extensive experience in marketing and social science research in New Media & Society, American Behavioral Scientist, Mass Communication and Society, Social Science Computer Review, Computers in Human Behavior, Telematics and He has published more than 120 papers in top journals or international conferences such as Informatics, Journal of Public Relations Research, Journal of Product and Brand Management, and Public Relations Review. She has also received numerous awards and honors from global institutions such as the Public Relations Institute and received grants including Arthur Page Johnson Legacy Scholar Grant and National Science Foundation (NSF) ($1,058,249).

Djurovic Gordana


Full-time professor on the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Montenegro, Podgorica, Montenegro (subjects: Economic development, the EU enlargement policy, Cohesion policy, International economic relations); Head of European economic integration studies (undergraduate and postgraduate study), Jean Monnet professor since 2012. She has long been engaged in research, teaching and policy formulation of global economic integration, economic diplomacy and press releases, and was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Montenegrin Government and Minister of European Integration, and has extensive influence in politics and academia.

Nazgul Tursynbayeva

Deputy Dean of the School of Journalism and Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication of the Kazakh National University. Committed to scientific research on journalism systems and journalist safety, gender equality, sustainable development goals, media education, management and marketing communications, regional media development, etc., he is the organizer of many international scientific practice conferences and has presented at various foreign conferences speak. He has conducted research internships in the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Turkey and China. She actively participates in activities of major communication centers in the United States, Germany, Poland and other countries. Published more than 250 scientific papers, authored 5 monographs, 9 training manuals, and 2 educational and methodological recommendations. Won the "Best University Teacher of the Year 2011" award from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Aliya Nurshaikhova

Lecturer at the Kazakh National University School of Journalism, deputy director of the Chair of Journalism and Communication. Completed her doctoral studies at Kazakh National University in 2023. Worked in public relations positions at the Kazakhstan Press Club and Kazakhstan Film Studio. Studied at prestigious institutions such as KazNU, KIMEP University and FH Schmalkalden in Germany. Internships at prestigious universities such as Columbia University in New York, Ohio University in the United States and Istanbul University in Turkey highlight her readiness for international interaction and knowledge exchange. Research areas are documentary journalism, mass media communication, public relations, media management and international journalism.

Habib Mohammad Ali


Associate Professor in the Department of Media Studies and Journalism, Bangladesh University of Arts and Sciences, he has long been engaged in research and teaching on social media, risk society and public health, and is fluent in Bengali, English and Japanese.

Wang Weili


Associate Professor of School of Journalism and New Media, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Loughborough University, UK, focusing on international communication and environmental communication issues, and is a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the International Society for Media and Communication Studies (IAMCR). He used to work in BlueFocus Digital Marketing Agency, engaged in crisis public relations handling of listed companies, and is an expert in foreign language teaching, scientific research and crisis news release practice.

Shen Nan


Associate Professor of School of Journalism and New Media, Xi'an Jiaotong University, backbone teacher of "News Communication and Information Risk Control" team, focusing on journalism theory, media ethics and rule of law research and cross-cultural communication teaching.

Shen Xiao


Associate Professor of School of Journalism and New Media, Xi'an Jiaotong University, he has been jointly trained for doctoral studies by Nanyang Technological University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and has long been engaged in teaching new media in government affairs, international communication research and cyberspace security (undergraduate).


Curriculum system

The course revolves around the theme of "Journalism and Sustainable Development", taking into account theoretical research, case teaching and practical reflection, and designs and teaches relevant content about social responsibility, sustainable development policy, environmental communication, health communication and news release. Through a series of special lectures, it helps course learners understand the important value, challenges and coping strategies of journalism and communication in promoting sustainable development in the international community. The content covers the international journalism education model for promoting sustainable development: China's experience, journalism and social responsibility, media strategies for health communication under the concept of sustainable development, green media and environmental policies, sustainable development reporting from a global perspective, public communication and sustainable social progress, media and rural revitalization: communication strategies and practices, environmental news and ecological communication, media ethics and sustainable development, etc.
